High in the hills overlooking Rio, balanced precariously on the hillside sits the little neighborhood of Santa Teresa. It's far from the tourist strip of the beach, and a world apart. The winding cobblestone streets are lined with original colonial buildings, the kind which once dominated in Rio, before modernization. Here on the hill, somehow they have survived. Likely this neighborhood was forgotten due in no small part to its proximity to the Donna Marta favela/slum.
